World Oceans Month

Our community of ocean-minded people and businesses have a few easy ways for you to support your planet and oceans

Let's Make a Difference

"Celebrating World Oceans Month"

This is our grassroots campaign to encourage you to become an active steward of our planet and oceans. We're working with our tenants in the Hús to share their stories, bring awareness to their initiatives, and offer avenues for engagement to our network and neighbors. Take a look below, we hope you're able to plug in!

Make your own

beach cleanup with

Saltwater Classroom!

How it works:

For World Oceans Month, make your own beach cleanup with Saltwater Classroom. Starting today and running through the end of June, we’ll have pails and grabbers at the Hús for anyone to checkout and use on their own little coastal cleanup. Go solo, take your kids, meet a colleague outdoors, there are many worthy occasions for picking up a little trash. It’s a thought provoking way to slow down, and see how present waste is in some of our favorite places. Shoot us a note if you want to stop by and take a pail for a walk, open to all.

  • Stop by the Hús between 8:30 and 4:00 on weekdays

  • Checkout a Yeti pail and grabber

  • Go do your beach cleanup

  • Take photos, post pics, tag Saltwater Classroom and the New England Ocean Cluster

  • Return to the Hús and throw out your trash

  • Check your gear back in

  • Spread the word and do it again!

Reduce Your Carbon Footprint with Biofuel

Portland Heating Customers
Making a BIG difference.

Maine Standard Biofuels is already helping Mainers transition to a more sustainable fuel, reduce their carbon footprint, all while avoiding upfront equipment costs. Just take a look at the table below! They do this by gathering cooking oil and up-cycling it into biofuel products ready for home heating. Additionally, they're already fueling Casco Bay Lines and are excited to find ways to fuel more of Maine's Working Waterfront. We encourage you to make out reach to the Maine Standard Biofuels team and consider changing your home heating oil to this greener alternative.

FOLLOW THE ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THE BLUE ECONOMY SERIES

Entrepreneurship in the Blue Economy (EITBE) is an event series created by the New England Ocean Cluster to share the stories of ocean-focused entrepreneurs and project leaders in Maine. Each session is free to attend and includes a curated panel of speakers who share their own intimate and organic perspectives on the topic du jour. Created in 2019, the program’s intent is to convene an engaged audience to raise awareness, promote dialog, and facilitate connections amongst those interested in the region’s blue economy. Though our delivery is now virtual, the focus remains the same. We are proud to be launching our winter season with the incredible support of or presenting sponsors; the University of Maine Graduate & Professional Center, Eaton Peabody, and Best of Maine
