Entrepreneurship in the Blue Economy

A "just in time for the holidays" list of curated Blue Economy goods perfect for the gift-giving season.

Holiday Buyer's Guide

Special Installation of Entrepreneurship in the Blue Economy!

Upcycling! Full utilization! Creative product development and innovation! Slice it however you want and slap a campaign tag on it! The reality is, Maine, and the region's Blue Economy entrepreneurs are an impressive bunch!

So, with the holiday season upon us, we thought we would take a swipe at a buyer's guide. Below you'll find a curated list of local people and businesses that you can support! Every product below is purpose driven and innovative, and the values of each company can be seen in the goods they proudly offer.

In addition, we ENCOURAGE you take a little time to read about any or all of the companies below. LEARN about what they are doing and why it matters. CELEBRATE that everyone encompassed in this guide has committed to operating in new and better ways. Whether it's sustainable food production and sourcing, up-cycling retired materials for use in fashion, turning old frying oil into home heating fuel, or taking a biochemical engineer's approach to skincare, the work being done in our Blue Economy is worth exploring.

Released Today

Maine Oyster Company is releasing 50 hand-made, recycled oyster bag totes today, Friday 12/11. You get first crack at them! These totes are one-of-a-kind and made using upcycled bags from oyster farms across the state. Net proceeds will go to the Preble Street Resource Center so spread the word and help Maine Oyster Company sell out.

FOLLOW THE ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THE BLUE ECONOMY SERIES

Entrepreneurship in the Blue Economy (EITBE) is an event series created by the New England Ocean Cluster to share the stories of ocean-focused entrepreneurs and project leaders in Maine. Each session is free to attend and includes a curated panel of speakers who share their own intimate and organic perspectives on the topic du jour. Created in 2019, the program’s intent is to convene an engaged audience to raise awareness, promote dialog, and facilitate connections amongst those interested in the region’s blue economy. Though our delivery is now virtual, the focus remains the same. We are proud to be launching our winter season with the incredible support of or presenting sponsors; the University of Maine Graduate & Professional Center and Eaton Peabody
